07. Paul Mecurio
In Episode 07 of Comedy Anatomy, Mike and Masavia talk with comedian and writer, Paul Mecurio. Paul is an Emmy and Peabody award-winning writer who wrote for The Daily Show on Comedy Central, and appeared multiple times on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He also has a hit podcast called The Paul Mecurio Show where he interviews the likes of Paul McCartney, Judd Apatow, and more.
- Paul describes his early days as a Georgetown Law School graduate working on massive corporate mergers, and the love of comedy that drove him to sneak out to perform sets, and live a double life as an aspiring comic.
- How a fortuitous encounter with Jay Leno, a trip to the Aspen Comedy Festival, and a nagging addiction to performing ultimately led Paul to give up his high-earner lifestyle, and pursue stand-up full time.
- His days living in a rooming house, doing awful gigs, and the struggles and doubts that made him swear off comedy for a time - only to come back with a vengeance.
- We discuss Paul’s time as a writer on The Daily Show, his subsequent award wins, comedy specials, late night television appearances, and his podcast, The Paul Mecurio Show.
- And more!
